Official MWGL Kemper Users Thread

I know we've got some other threads discussing different products.... but I wanted one for @Dexter Inferno , @BlockInlay , myself, and whomever ends up getting a Kemper in the near future ( >cough @micwalt cough cough @Mark Wein cough< ) to have some resources for sounds and tips.

The Amps I'm currently using for my go-to sounds are:

Vox AC 30 w treble boost (Michael Brit Voice Ace 30 4 Klon) - I backed off the gain for the clean sound and morph to the boosted tone.

Mesa Single Recto Clean and Crunch (I'll have to check the patch, might be Tone Junkie)

and a Top Jimi VH1 Brown Sound (I'll check which marshal amp and cab it's using).

Are there some other patches I should be checking out? I haven't found a Fender Twin that I love yet... and I'd like to try out some great Bogner sounds that aren't skull-crushing-metal.

Also Effects...

Outside of some basic delays and reverbs, I've only played with the treble booster, a simple chorus, and a crystal delay that swells harmonics. I'm sure I'll have to get an expression pedal to take full advantage of some of them.

@Mark Wein ... I stumbled across a Suhr Badger preset the other night. I can see why you use it as a pedal platform... the tones changed quite a bit with the application of a TS808, Treble Booster, or gain changes on the amp itself.

@baimun When you use your Kemper live - are you running direct to the FOH or out to your amp?

Both. I run stereo XLR to FOH, adjust the level running to the board during sound check and leave it fixed.

I run the monitor out to the FX loop in on my Mesa combo and the great big VOLUME knob on the floorboard in front of me only changes the amp volume over my shoulder.

In that respect it feels exactly how my pedalboard and amp felt, but if I turn up as the show (and drummer) gets louder, I'm not blowing up the inputs on the board because the stage cab is no longer mic'd.

Are you guys using the Mission E expression pedal or something different?

Also, which wah settings do you like best?

Which badger? The 18 and 35 have EL84's and are more "Vox'y", the 30 (which I have) is more of a Marshall. To be honest, there are times where I wish I had a Bella instead because the 30 doesn't' have as much clean headroom when I play outdoors or if I wanted to play jazz and needed a bigger clean sound.

@Mark Wein It's the 35.

I wonder if I've been digging all of the Vox and Matchless sounds because it's unleashing the EL84s in my Mesa Combo. Hmm... I'll have to take my Kemper over to my buddie's music store and run it in a couple different FX loops and see what happens.

Fwiw my setup tonight for the Petty show.
Not shown us the Behringer midi board and Headrush cab.

I fucking love this rig. Loopmaster switcher to switch between guitars.

Running the acoustic through the Kemper btw. And the Tele was only used for that one tune (I Won't Back Down) - slide in open G.

Btw, I just got the 5 amp pack of the Victory profiles. They're really good.

Most people in the Kemper group on FB hate them. Why? Because they're set flat eq wise, so you actually have to tweak them to get the sound you want.
This further reinforces my belief that most guitar players these days are fucking lazy and can't be bothered to twist a few knobs to get things sounding good.

If it doesn't sound great immediately the idiots just give up and think they're crap. Imagine if we did that back in the day without turning a single knob on our amps.

Btw, the Victory 44 (which is a Plexi variation) sounds unfuckingbelievable once you tweak the eq a bit.
