Not the Martin I'd be looking for

1963 Martin D-28E
This is an outragiously rare & cool D-28E w/factory pickups & electronics, its beautiful Spruce top has wide grain like an Adorondak top, its Brazilian Rosewood back & sides are tight & colorful like their from the mid-50's, its 2 powerful DArmond pickups are factory installed as well as the 2 volume & 2 tone pots w/chrome capped knobs, it also has a 3-way switch to separate each pickup, its tortoisegard is beautiful & cut & angled around the pickup bezels & bridge, Gold Grover stay-tite tuning machines finish it off, if you've never seen one of these its hard to believe Martin made these, but in fact they did, this one has some pick wear around the bridge & some buckle wear into the finish on the back, but it's still crack free & quite clean overall, it is excellent shape & has no mods or repairs, comes with its original Black tolex w/Green lined hard case.

Not what I'd spend $7500 on, for sure.

It's like a sweet lovable puppy that some deranged scientist used for horrible genetic mutation experiments.

It deserves a loving home with a patient and understanding owner.

I find it hard to believe that Martin would have done that in 1963. Gibson had acoustic/electrics, but nothing that outrageous. The mutilation around the pickguard makes me think Martin had nothing to do with the pickups at all.

The pickguard hacking makes me agree with Gary.
If those are real 50s DeArmands is still very cool tho.
I'd like to own it, but nowhere near $7500 like.

Agreed. But that's what makes it awesome. Guitarists have consistently modified and mutilated their instruments since the very beginning. And no make or model has been an exception. It also shows that there were no "good ol' days" and how incredibly stupid people have been throughout the generations. This guitar is rock 'n roll.

Rock in roll would be the same vintage pickups in a plywood Yamaha.
But it wouldn't vibrate against your belly near as nicely:)

BTW I just scored a nice old solid top Takamini for $30 including the old chipboard case.
It lacks a nut, saddle, and endpins but appears very solid. Straight neck, not much fretwear(altho it has small vintage frets).
Now where can I find me a deal on some vintage DeArmonds?

Absolutely no way that was done by Martin. That guitar unaltered (aka no pickups) would sell for a kings ransom. Probably over 10K.

I have seen more than one of these online since posting this, so it seems Martin did make these. Most have that odd cut on the pick guard but not the gouges around it.

1963? I thought pot and LSD was more 64-66.
