National Football League 2019

I wasnt serious about my Brady Bunch joke. This 7 minutes filming the Bengals is nothing. However, they are in deep with their lack of offense this year They will really have to pull a rabbit out of their ass to get past a healthy Baltimore. I'm rooting for a Pats-Niners Superbowl.

If you really don't like the Patriots, you should revel in their psychic implosion. Van Noy bitching at the fans' booing shows just how fragile their psyches are - a few bad games and look at everyone scatter like rats on a sinking ship.

If you really don't like Patriots fans - thank you. You have no idea how good that feels.

I just want to point out that the Jaguars are 31 of 32 on that cheating list and we SUCK so there's clearly something to be said for cheating. Although the Dolphins are ranked pretty high on there, they've clearly stopped cheating this year. LOL

If all things were even (which they are not), I would highlight the brazen arrogance of the Pats, and their self described MASSHOLE fans.

This is not meant to be an attack on you Randy, just to be clear.

I never took it as a personal attack but was more curious on what was driving the conflict. I only say that because if it were your team, how would you have responded?

Won't wade into the super sophisticated discussion about how a billion dollar enterprise is supposed to cover their eyes as people do stuff in front of 65,000 ... (oops, forgot, Bengals/Browns so ... 25,000?) people.

I'm more interested in the game.

Saying that officiating quality is related to the number of challenges is pointedly stupid. We're not talking about challenges.

We're talking about enjoying football games. It's tough to do when the officials are incompetent. Since I don't buy into any conspiracy theory about them favoring certain teams, I don't think it's a partisan issue, unless you have a strange fantasy that Roger Goodell is lurking and going to give you his approval for being A Company Guy.

The refs are bad. The league keeps doing everything except the one thing they should: have a replay official who can simply correct missed calls.

The toughest part about the refs is that there will always be bad and good calls. With replay as part of the equation, it really brings into the ability to turnover calls.

As a Pats fan the did not call this a touchdown but it was. Sadly the angle that ref was he did not see Harry's feet inbounds. Add to it the Pats were out of challenges which I later learned so that blew chunks.

The other TD was the stripped ball from Kelce that got called back.

Oh well so be it.

@Andrew Sak - Yes the offense is sputtering and struggling. No well oiled machine here. KC was smart to double team Edelman and force that Pats to use their other receivers.

I don't think the Refs are bad, at least not for the most part. It's a very fast game with lots of moving pieces, so it's highly likely that they will miss things that are glaringly obvious with 16 camera angles, super slo-mo, etc...

Yes, the league & owners need to fix the replay issue once and for all. They tried, but you cant review every play. There will always be things the refs just cant see. Seems this season the league focus is preventing the defense from violating the personal space of offensive players. Maybe next year they will "fix" the replay/review rules to everyones satisfaction. Or not.

I would love to see the league go back to no replays. I believe Baseball is doing this as it takes too much time to review. The only one I would endorse is replay on touchdowns.

I really disagree about "there will always be good and bad calls." As a long time viewer, I think that the quality of officiating has declined markedly in the last half-decade or so. I don't know why, but I am not blaming 'new, better replay.' Circa 2008, there were surely egregious calls (as always, per your post) but they were not as frequent or profoundly boneheaded.

And really, who cares?

I want to see the best football game. You don't need to stop the game for 6 minutes to see that Harry scored, or that the Rams interfered, etc. My view is that the only thing preventing the NFL from improving is their own weird, broken decision-making process.

I yell at the TV for a minute or 2, then move on with my life. You should have heard me during the Sharks/Pedo's last night!

Richard Sherman has been fucking targeted by the refs this season. He has very few PI calls against him, then got 3 in one half.

But it is what it is.

Well, as far as "moving on with life," I don't consider myself to be qualified to tell others how much they should or shouldn't care about something. If we're going to do it, whether it be make music or organize a football game, hey, let's try to do it as well as possible.

The NFL is terrible at this.

As far as officiating goes, I suppose I'm too old to 'get' things now, but I'm appalled at how officials don't seem to value invisibility any more. When I wore a striped shirt and a whistle (please laugh - it was during my 'grunge' period with hair to my ass) I felt incredibly good on the nights that no one noticed me and I simply walked off the court to my car. If I was super lucky, a very classy coach might nod at me and say "nice game."

Now, we have guys who think they ought to be giving payback to Chris Paul for his gamesmanship re: delay of game ... what ridiculousness. Hochule seemed to never get enough of himself, and now we have refs who are throwing 16-22 flags a game. Umpires who 'go after' players in MLB.

Blech.

We all do which is the sign of a true fan!!! And as you know it doesn't matter what team it is. Worse if it is your team that is playing.

I was actually kind of rooting for the Raiders yesterday. It being their last game in Oakland and all. But no, the idiot Jaguars had to go win and ruin our draft position. PICK ONE AND STICK TO IT!!!! LOL

Bears lost to the Packers again. Bears are 7-7 and mathematically out of the playoffs. The loss would be a little easier if they flexed their night game against the Chiefs so I could watch the game but, Nooooooooooo.

Looking forward to the Packers/Viks game next Monday. Have had very few opportunities to see the Pack on tv this season.

Gruden agrees/d with me re: refs. I'll stand with Chuckie.

Not sure what to think about the Jaguars. "Father Tom" Coughlin clearly needed to go, but I was totally unaware that they hadn't made the playoffs 11 of the last 12 years. They gave the Pats a real run for the money just two years ago in the conference title game.
