Dig it! NAGD!!

Should be NCAGD (new cheap acoustic guitar day).

I love my walnut/cedar acoustic but the neck is just too big to be comfortable to a strummer with short fingers like me. So I drove over to a local acoustic guitar store near me to see if I could get anything on a trade.

A played a few nice guitars, but bore in mind my budget right now is very, very slim. Hard for an acoustic snob like me. Then I played a few Eastmans. Holy Schnikes! I played three and all three were wonderful - the best being a $1150.00 000 sized one. Rang like no tomorrow with great tone and huge sustain. Played a $1050.00 Dreadnaught sized that was almost a nice. But both above my price range unless I got a killer trade (which I didn't).

So I tried A $500.00 Eastman. The model is AC-DR1. Wow - just wow. Solid spuce top with some nice silking. Solid Sapele back and sides. Satin finish to save $$. Very plain jane looking - again a budget consideration. But it sounded very, very good. And well into my price range. So I pulled the trigger. Came with a good quality gig bag. When I get the $$ for a better acoustic the $1200.00 000 model I tried will be very much in the picture, but I am enjoying this a LOT right now.
Oh - and no trade at all. Since my acoustic is made by a talented but unknown luthier they did not want it. Anyone want a hand made acoustic fairly cheap??

So - pics.

Not much to look at but huge bang for the buck. I'm happy.

Yay! Did you get it at the place we went to? What made you choose it over the mini jumbo?

Eastman really makes terrific instruments. My Eastman mandolin punches way above it's price, especially compared to similar offerings by major brands that add mandos to their line. My semi-hollow has a Bigsby, real Duncan P90s and sounds and plays flawlessly. At NAMM this year I played their fanned fret acoustic and it was easily the best production fanned fret acoustic I've played.

No. I'm rarely up in that part of town. There is an acoustic store about 5 minutes drive from my house that has Eastmans - and Collings as well. And yeah - it punches way above it's price. I was totally blown away by the Eastman OM I played. Almost played itself and sustained like there was no tomorrow. But $1200.00 plus more for a pickup is not in the budget right now. I have a wedding and honeymoon to pay for.

I did buy a K&K Pure Mini for the Eastman yesterday night online. On sale.

My pickup for the guitar arrived Saturday from Shoreline Music. Excellent business for acoustic oriented stuff.

Anyways - I bought a K&K Pure Mini. Need to see if I can get it installed this week.

Pickup installed. I did some recording with it direct from the pickup into my computer via my DI box. Sounded pretty good. I normally record the acoustics with the direct in and a mic at the same time and mix the two but this will work since it is pretty background in this song.

Can't wait to try the guitar in a live setting. I need to find a open mic here and jump in.
