My visit to GC tonight led to a major GAS Attack

Modern Saint

Occasionally I like to go to my local GC and wander. Tonight my son and I went and I had him try out a few Music Man basses - one was a 4 and the other a 5. I have always loved Music Man gear so this was cool to have my son trying gear out now. As we circled the store I always look at the used gear because you never know what you might find. They had a used EPI Jr amp for $59. Quite tempting but I have to finish mine and to get another one was not justified. Then I looked atsome of the better guitars and saw the prize....

New ones sell for $1599 and this used one was going for $1099. Last time I checked one out was about 2 years ago and they were going for about $2000. Boy did I want to get one but as I started to go down the checklist of need vs. want, I walked away. As I write this I am still thinking about it but it will fade as I don't have a solid use for it. Now if it were a Gretsch 6120 for that price, I would now own a new guitar

I can't tell what it is on my phone...a lukather model?

Yes it is a Luke model in near mint condition. Color was that dark metallic greyish black armed with EMG's. Not an EMG fan but it works for that guitar and the trem bar plays so differently from the Floyds, the clones and the standard strat.

I have heard nothing but rave reviews of the Luke models. I believe that Dexter used to own a Luke.....

They play superb. It is hard to walk away since the temptation is so great. There was a note on it that said that it won't be available to leave the store until Aug 27 so I do have time to consider it - unless someone else buys it. But even if they did, it goes into the backroom until the release date.

Sigh.....

I need to forget about it. Only if I were gigging more than once a month on average.......

Lino has a Luke model from the late 90s. Nice guitar. It's got a smaller neck than I generally care for, but there's no denying that it's a great playing, great sounding guitar.

my only lament about the Luke is the SSH configuration. if it had 2 humbuckers i probably would have bought one years ago. one of the best playing instruments i've ever come across.

And he didn't bring that to Pragestock why? :poke:

I have a Musicman EVH that looks similar to this and it, along with most EB's, is loads of fun to play.

Their guitars can be pricey and tempting, so they can drain your wallet, but they leave less desire for a new guitar and GAS overall.

If I went to Pragestock, I would have asked him to bring it. Maybe next year I will make it.
