Microsoft buys Bethesda, ID Software for $7.5 billion

The 360 version of Bethesda titles were much more stable than the PS3 ones. I wonder if they'll become system exclusives for M$, or they'll continue to offer cross platform to help bank roll their smaller IPs?

Microsoft really had to do something to get exclusive titles for the Xbox. Sony has said that they’re going for even more exclusives to boost the PS5 and Microsoft has to keep up somehow.

I think the whole 'platform exclusive' thing is a red herring and won't last long. The game publishers are not going to be thrilled at the prospect of limiting their sales to owners of a specific platform, and the drivers of the industry are the game publishers, and not the platform manufactures. I expect this model will fail miserably.

Considering it has been going on for over 30 years I'd say it will be around a while longer. Look at Nintendo vs Sega. Then we move into XBox vs PS1. Both had exclusives. That was 1995!

Hell, even cross platform games back then were almost always "exclusives" because they were ported by completely different publishers and developers, depending on region licensing agreements.

Platform exclusives have been around since the PS1 era. I don’t think they’re going away any time soon.

I think the age of the console is fading fast. Everything is coming back to PCs for gaming now. I think this new generation of consoles will be the last.
