Michael Bolton tried out for Black Sabbath?

“Me and Geezer had to rethink the whole thing. We had a million tapes sent in from different singers and most of them were horrible. One of them was from Michael Bolton. I didn’t know him at the time. We had Michael come in and we had him sing ‘Heaven and Hell’, ‘War Pigs’, and ‘Neon Knights’. He was quite good, but he wasn’t exactly what we were looking for then. We dropped a bollock there, didn’t we? Michael Bolton! A little bit of a mistake.”
– Tony Iommi, in his auto-biography Iron Man: My Journey through Heaven and Hell with Black Sabbath

Somebody should do a Black Bolton mashup :bigg:

It's easy to forget that Michael Bolton pre-mid 80's wasn't the horrible dude we got to know in the 90s.

I saw Michael Bolton open for Heart in '86 or '87 around the time he first came on the scene and started getting some airplay with his cover of Dock of the Bay.

He got huge much later. But at that point he was just sort of forgettable and cheesy and glossy and entirely appropriate for an opening slot on an '80s Heart tour.

Makes me so happy that I opened this thread ready to drop some vintage Bolton (from before his hair really thinned out and he started singing adult contemporary stuff)....

... and you dudes were already all over it. :baimun:

Michael Bolton singing for Black Sabbath would have ended in a bitter divorce.
I may be biased. I proposed to my ex-wife to his rendition of 'When A Man Lives A Woman' at the bar on Lake Meads 'Echo Bay Resort'. I was supposed to pop the question during a Rod Stewart song, but I got cold feet. No, it wasn't Hot Legs.

Still, Michael kicks ass.
