Anything in particular I should look at?
Right now, I'm happiest with my Marshall Jackhammer. It's a later version of the Shredmaster (which I also have but the Jackhammer is more convenient). I put the Jackhammer in Overdrive mode and turned the contour off -- that control screws up more than it helps.
I use the dirt pedal into a very clean Peavey Classic. It's set for a little more midrange honk than your standard country Deluxe/Twin Reverb.
I like something thick and nasty. I'll kick an EQ pedal for a mid boost when I want it to sing. I don't want polite and slightly distorted - the amp's OD channel is fine for that.
Something between a distortion and fuzz may be the ticket. The Rat is close but it doesn't have quite enough low end. The Big Muff is fun but gets tiresome quickly. Mark's Mojo Hand Crosstown Fuzz has me interested. The Fulltone Catalyst is interesting, too.
Being able to control both the bass and treble is good. The single tone knob never seems to give me enough control.
Honestly, I'm somewhat tempted to just run a Distortion+ into a 6-band EQ.
