May do some dirt pedal window-shopping in a little while

Anything in particular I should look at?

Right now, I'm happiest with my Marshall Jackhammer. It's a later version of the Shredmaster (which I also have but the Jackhammer is more convenient). I put the Jackhammer in Overdrive mode and turned the contour off -- that control screws up more than it helps.

I use the dirt pedal into a very clean Peavey Classic. It's set for a little more midrange honk than your standard country Deluxe/Twin Reverb.

I like something thick and nasty. I'll kick an EQ pedal for a mid boost when I want it to sing. I don't want polite and slightly distorted - the amp's OD channel is fine for that.

Something between a distortion and fuzz may be the ticket. The Rat is close but it doesn't have quite enough low end. The Big Muff is fun but gets tiresome quickly. Mark's Mojo Hand Crosstown Fuzz has me interested. The Fulltone Catalyst is interesting, too.

Being able to control both the bass and treble is good. The single tone knob never seems to give me enough control.

Honestly, I'm somewhat tempted to just run a Distortion+ into a 6-band EQ.

I do love the crosstown. I'm even buying a second one. :)

Plug play and try them all. Give the Wampler Sovereign a shot. It is the only Wampler sold at most everyones nemesis - Guitar Center

Tried three Fulltone pedals - Catalyst, OCD, and Plimsoul.

Catalyst is a pretty nasty fuzz. It could be fun but wasn't the sound I was looking for.

OCD is a good meat-and-potatos distortion.

Plimsoul was my favorite. It's hard to objectively describe why I liked it more than the OCD but it was a more "chewy" sound -- thicker, less dry. I doubt I could tell them apart on a recording but the Plimsoul just felt better to play.

But the $170 price has me going "Hmm... pay bills and balance the checkbook first" rather than "You're coming home with me now."

By the way, I was using a Tele into a Fender Super Sonic 22 set totally clean. Why don't I hear more about this amp? The cleans on it were really pretty after only a 15-second dial-in.
