Having one of each I would have to disagree. Big difference in sound between the Masterbuilt and the J45.

I have to confess I've never owned an Epiphone, but my son once had an Epi LP special II that had the worst-sounding pickups I have ever had the displeasure to use. I gave him a real guitar instead (a Godin LG-SP90)...
