Boston's Johnny A Guitars stolen in housebreak

( FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Boston's Johnny A spent the last month wowing crowds in Japan and Europe with his distinctive blues playing, but when the Boston music scene veteran returned home to New England, he made a heartbreaking discovery: three of his guitars were stolen from his Salem, N.H., home.

Sometime late Saturday night to early Sunday morning, thieves broke a window stealing the guitars before escaping through a door as the house alarm sounded.

"These instruments that were stolen from me, it's my living. It's what I do," Johnny A told FOX 25's Bob Ward in an interview.

Stolen were:

1968 Gibson Bass EB-2D Model. Burgundy Red Metallic finish. Has broken head stock with repair in back.

Gibson Acoustic Montana custom built for Johnny A.

Hofner Beatle Bass, a gift from Johnny A's Family.

Johnny A says he simply wants his guitars returned, no questions asked.

" I'm not really interested in retaliation or retribution, I just want my tools back," the guitarist said.

" It's like, if you're a carpenter or contractor you got to build a house, and somebody steals your tools. He can't build a house, he's out of business. Same deal," he added.

If you know anything about Johnny A's stolen guitars, call Salem, N.H. police at 603-893-1911.

That sucks.

I bet he has insurance and whatever, but that one was a gift.
And how are you ever going to find another Gibson with a repaired headstock?

Wait.

Nevermind.

OK, I really am laughing out lout at that one... Anyways, thieves suck... Johnny A seems like a genuinely good guy, so this just sucks more... I know the feeling... I may not have any over valued collectors as tools, but I have had all my carpentry tools and electrical tools heisted a few different times in my life... It is a sick feeling...

It is an awful thing, but his statement that he can't work without his tools overlooks the fact that he was out working when it happened, so while some of his tools are gone it would seem he still has the important tools.

Just an observation.

He didn't really say that, you did. He just pointed out that these are tools for his business, and used the comparison to a carpenter... I've been working before when my tools were stolen... Also, who are you to decide which tools are his important ones? There are always different tools for different jobs, and they all have importance at the time you need them...

I'm just pointing out that he still has tools and is not out of business. Theft sucks, I've had my house and car broken into in the past and it is a horrible feeling. I just thought that statement was a bit over the top, but that is just my way of thinking, which is, usually, wrong.

I get the feeling that you have some underlying animosity here, seriously... It's "over the top" for a pro musician at his level to say what he did??!! He does need his tools, as they are part of what made/makes him at the level he is at... He doesn't "still have his tools", as you state... He has some of them... Maybe that particular guitar was his prime inspiration... Who knows?

I have no idea who this guy is. If I were wowing crowds in Europe and Japan, however, I would have my important guitars with me. Anyway, I seem to be out of line, not to mention out on a limb, so I apologize.

Again, I think the theft sucks.

He generally plays his Gibson Johnny A model live. My suspicion is that these were probably his "collection" and perhaps used for recording.

You're not out of line in any way. Sometimes it's difficult to understand a person's tone on the internet... Either way, I'm not offended, or trying to do battle with you at all, just pointing out some things from my point of view, which is from the side of requiring a lot of tools to make my living...

His statement, " It's like, if you're a carpenter or contractor you got to build a house, and somebody steals your tools. He can't build a house, he's out of business. Same deal", simply makes a point. He didn't say that he got all his tools stolen. He didn't say that he can't work. The whole paragraph points out that these guitars are his tools, not his toys... I think his analogy was spot on.

Of course, I do know that 9 out of 10 psychologists have proven that you probably are out of line...

Oh, and by the way, touring musicians do not usually bring their most important guitars with them, especially if they have to fly overseas...

I guess what jumped out at me was the "out of business" line, which was probably quoted "out of context." It just seemed a bit over the top.

Seeing, however, that the original news source was "myfox.Boston" I'm surprised they mentioned this since it had nothing to do with the important story of the weekend, The Penn State Sex Scandal.

Man, that Penn State stuff is sickening... That's why I avoid news...
