Mojo Request Is there a more scarier movie than the one which is called by the name Hereditary? Recently anyways?

I love horror movies and Hereditary is one of my favorites of the last ten years or so. What do you think is the scariest movie you ever watched?

I saw Hereditary in the theater. My expectations were high and the cast is stellar but it kind of fell flat for me. I think part of the reason is that it was released shortly after The Witch and that movie raised the bar significantly for everything else that followed. Absolutely gorgeous movie, great sense of dread, amazing cast, etc. — nearly perfect, really.

I think A Quiet Place is scarier than Hereditary. I spent too much time confused watching Hereditary to be scared by it.
Us looks pretty scary.

Ohhh the Witch is another excellent one! I also like The Lighthouse, which I took my family to see when I was in Atlanta a couple years ago and they absolutely hated it.

I liked A Quiet Place a lot but I found it to be more suspenseful than scary. Hereditary haunted me for a long time after it was over.

The Lighthouse was awesome. My wife walked by when Willem Defoe was naked and said "what the hell are you watching?"

My faves are Alien and The Shining. I thought Jaws was terrifying when I saw it as a kid. I still think it is a great movie, just not something I think of as horror.

In related news - I have seen commercials for this movie about aliens killing everybody and it's called NOPE. I think @smurfco has some homework to do...

Even though I don't think Us was as good as Get Out, I will still see anything Jordan Peele makes. Really looking forward to this one.

How long has Zeitgeist been out?

That one is still horrifying.
I need to check this one out because I am not familiar with it...

EDIT: If it's the Peter Joseph documentary thing then it definitely looks interesting (and terrifying) but I'm talking more about fiction-based horror here...

Witch and the American remake of REC, called Quarantine are my favorite horror flicks of recent times. Quarantine is a bit older now, coming from 2008, but still worth a watch.

If we’re talking about horror films from the past decade, then I really liked It Follows and Raw. But neither of them are especially scary. What’s scary is Zack Snyder films. After the first 15 minutes or so, I begin to worry that I will scream and pluck my own eyes out. But then there are another 225 minutes.

Hereditary was engrossing, but not terribly scary. It Follows is a fine film, but again not too frightening. The Witch is rad—it’s pretty much ripped from ye olde headlines of period accounts of witchcraft. Great mood. Not particularly scary.

I love horror as a genre but I don’t usually find it horrifying. And the stuff I find most unnerving isn’t exactly the best from a film perspective. I thought Us was scarier than Get Out, for example. But Get Out was a better movie.

I liked It Follows a lot and I saw Titane which I believe is from the same person who made Raw. If it's anything like Titane I'm sure it's a real mind fuck :embarrassed:
