Motor City Madman
Sup Weiners. Been a while.
I rarely whine so figured I was due.
Over the past two years my dog and 3 cats have all died. All over ten years old, but still it's a bitch. And now my last cat isn't doing so well. They have all been rescues and they've meant as much (sometimes more) to me than most people in my life. *sigh*
Then in the fall I had skin cancer. Joy.
Then a friend of mine died in a car accident.
Then on new years a little kid shot me directly in the eye with a nerf dart and blinded me...
Instant excruciating pain that dropped me and caused about about 90% vision loss. Like looking through a frosted window.
Went to the U of M ER and I saw 5 or 6 doctors over the next 8 hours plus piles of tests. That day was difficult because what happened was essentially a tear and lots of internal bleeding. Also the pressure in the eye was skyrocketing which can cause permanent damage. I was given a bunch of different medications to control the bleeding and pressure.
For the next two weeks I then had to go to the U of M eye center everyday for tests, monitoring and what not. I've seen a dozen different doctors. All have been really good though and the U of M eye center seems state of the art. No hot nurses however *sigh*
A few days in it started bleeding again a bit too, though not nearly as severe. Essentially the injury was so bad that it was borderline for surgery. But I responded well to the drugs and started to heal. I've had to sleep sitting up for 3 weeks. Wasn't able to read or watch anything without extreme discomfort. Had to wear an eye patch Rrrr. Light sensitivity went through the roof. Have had to put 20 different drops in my eye all day long. Can't drive. Depth perception gets really fubar with one eye. There were some light headed side effects from the drugs. Couldn't do anything really. Couldn't drink. The only thing keeping me sane was playing/listening to music.
A month later now and things have done ok all things considered. They've taken me off a few of the drugs/drops, and I only have to go to the hospital once a week for a while before monthly visits etc. (assuming things go well). My vision is at about 50% strength now and I can read, look at a computer, and watch TV in increasing bursts. Still not more than a few hours. And I can just now drink again. I think this has been the longest I've gone without a drink since I was a teenager lol. 90% of the blood cells have drained out and they were able to see into my eye and determine there was no retina, nerve, or lens damage. The iris was the point of impact and tearing. It's still kinda early but there is a reasonable chance I won't regain 100% of my sight in that eye, and that my pupil may remain slightly enlarged. With increased light sensitivity and fuzziness. But this is stuff they'll have a better handle on in the coming months.
Anyway, good times.
Happy new year or some shit.
