Have You Ever Been Kicked Out of A Band?...

Not John Watt
...well, have you? I have. It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. Scarred me something fierce too...

...edit: is that how you spell "scarred?" as in, "that cut scarred my arm"?...it doesnt look right to me...

twice. the first time was in college. they got another gig in and that was it for them. the second time was a few years ago. the singer's roommate/manager didn't like how much power i had over the band, and she wanted her friend to be a rap artist. so i got shown the door. unfortunately, at our last gig, the girl blew out her voice and she could barely talk for 6 months afterward. so it really didn't matter that i was kicked out, because she never sang again anyway. then the bassist and i went to the theater group and it didn't matter anyway.

no exactly "fired"....but let go. the band's name was China White.....they ended up being the opening act for Yngwie Malmsteen in the 80's.
i didn't miss anything

Once I had "Artistic Differences" with a band.

We were arguing about what music to add to our set lists. We were doing Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, and such... I wanted to add a song or two from "Ride the Lightning"... they wanted to add more Poison to the set list.

I told them that one Poison song was plenty for me... they told me "Poison is the future of Rock and Roll... in a few years, nobody will even know who Metallica is."

I wasn't asked to leave exactly... it was just a blanket statement like "We don't know if this is working out anymore..." to which I replied "Fine. Now I don't have to play some of these shitty songs anymore..."

I can honestly say I've never played a single Poison riff since. :helper:

Yup. I got fired out of a band i helped put together in 2008 ( i got fired by EMAIL HAHAHA) because i was very out spoken about how piss poor the bassist and drummer were .The singer got fed up with hearing me bitch so i got fired. They lasted a couple of months longer with another guitarist and the band folded.

that is AWESOME!!! :thu:

Did a bunch of rehearsals with a band called Maggie's Farm in LA, was told I was their new guitarist. Did a festival in Santa Cruz for no coin. Sleeping on the floor and all that. A week later I saw the band was playing at a venue in LA on that Friday. They didn't tell me about that one I thought. I called the keyboardist who told me I wasn't in the band anymore, that their old guitarist was going to rejoin. He never left the band, he just didn't want to do some crappy Strawberry Festival.

:markfacepalm:

A friend of a friend played in Katy Perry's first band before she was signed. One night they showed up to play a show at the Key Club to find that she had hired a whole new band and didn't actually let the old band know ahead of time.

I quit.

I came up the stairs to practice at an old barn we used and overheard the rest of the members talking shit about me behind my back. At the time, I considered them my best friends.

They were very embarassed, I was furious, and quit.

I ended up not talking to any of them for 20+ years.

Sad story, actually.

I missed a practice for a band that didn't even have any gigs lined up. My "commitment to the band" was in question and I was replaced. I don't think that band played more than two rinkydink gigs before breaking up.

I would never join a band that would have me....

Yeah, been kicked out of a few.. Was too advanced for their cover tunes... God, anything beyond a pentatonic scale was extreme....

Thats when I invented the "Godzillian Mode" and all derived scales and chords, modes of modes and.....ok, see why I got fired :)

I got kicked out of a band I started. A really old friend and I put an original band together (because he was a GREAT songwriter, and I did everything else). The band was my vision, and eventually they resented me for it. After a year of really hard work and hard-fought success, they gave me the boot, and my buddy allowed it to happen. They thought they could do it without me. After I was gone, they lost their direction, floundered for a year or two, then fizzled. I firmly believe that band could have been huge.

HA HA M-Fers!!!!!

I've been fired three times. Two of them were passive-aggressive chick singers who never actually told me I was fired. It wasn't a big deal because I'd had only one or two rehearsals with each.

The other was a passive-aggressive guy who did the same thing. Except I'd been playing with him for 3 years. I thought the band just fizzled out until two years later when I saw the bassist at a show we both went to see. He told me they kept gigging without me for a few months, but it wasn't working with my replacement, so they stopped.

I've quit a lot more than I've been fired from, though. And without exception I had the balls to talk to them about it, too.
