Gold core D'Addario electric strings?

Been using D'Addarios for years and never noticed this.

Was doing a string change yesterday and noticed that the wound strings core wire is gold colored. Just standard 9's, the EXL120 XL's.

I've seen on a few other forums people have noticed this. Supposed to be a steel core... <shrug>

Was thinking maybe it's like a Willy Wonka golden ticket and I get free strings for life! Probably not...

I don’t have an explanation for the gold colored core. Have you recently spent time at Skinwalker Ranch?

Hmm... I have been hanging around the triangle and mesa at Skinwalker ranch, that could be it!
