Gator TSA cases should not be used as flight cases.

Suuuuuucks. Contact Gator right away. We have bought many road cases from them and they’ve always made things right when something was wrong.

Hopefully they’ll replace or give you credit towards one with the reinforced corners.

And of course I didn’t notice it right away so I can’t file a claim with the airline.

I contacted Gator. Hopefully they’ll take care of this given that their web site describes this as a flight case. But their very prominent warranty passes the buck to the airline.

I would like a replacement before I fly. But it’s going to be $245 for a better case by SKB. Which I would have to get with two day shipping from Sweetwater. That would cost more than the bass is worth. I’ll just slap some duct tape on the case and if the bass gets fucked up I’ll put a man’s ruin sticker on it.

Good call. Not only will the duct tape maybe probably keep it from getting worse. It will stick out like a sore thumb so, there's at least the possibility they will see it and decide to be gentler with it.

I have hard cases from Gator, SKB, Fender, and Charvel... and soft cases from Gator, Mono, and factory provided ones. Seems like the ones with the reinforced corners would travel the best... I'm surprised that Gator only offers this kind of corner protection on their $400 Titan cases for bass (they offer it on electric and acoustic guitar).

I have an unwritten rule where 10% of the purchase price of the instrument is pretty respectable... like my Allen & Heath SQ6 mixer is a $6K mixer... so $450 for a weatherproof road case is just a smart investment.

My Suhr is the most expensive guitar I've ever owned (even though I got it for the same price I got most of my PRS for)... so the floppy gig bag wasn't going to cut it. I got a killer deal on a Gator Icon which splits the difference between a bag and a case because of the rigid, padded, structure that surrounds the perimeter but the outer surface is fabric with zippered pouches like a soft bag.

Mojo. That sucks!

I took two flights with a Gibson coffin case and electric guitar. The case and guitar were unharmed. I guess it was pure luck.

You could also look into 8 rubberized stickers that you could wrap the top and bottom corners in to create bumpers and prevent corner scuffs.
