Fret erasers...

I have a guitar that needs a fret polish. Is it as easy as buying a set of fret erasers, taping off the fretboard and pickups, and 'Erasing' the fret(s)? Or is there more to it?

If it’s just a polish. Yeah. I like them.
I’d get a fret board protector thingy. Not really need but I tend to wander with the erasers.
