Fender Blues Jr. - Merry Christmas to me

Little Hot Wing
Cashed in my Christmas Gift Cards and cash for a new Fender Blues Jr. It's a big step up for me and really "too much" amp for my talent level (been playing about 18 months).

Anyway, I'm starting to fiddle with the controls and really don't know where to start. I'm looking (like many others I'm sure) for a big full sound (not a whiny sound) with just an edge of distortion/break up. What kind of settings for the two volumes (master and volume) and bass, mid, treble would be a good place to start? It also has a reverb control.

For adding more distortion, would the Barber Direct be a good fit?

Thanks for any thoughts.

The higher you have the master the bigger your actual sound will be. For a very clean sound put the master all the way up and set the volume for the appropriate level.

For the most distorted sound do the opposite - Volume all the way up and master at the level you need.

For what you are looking for maybe experiment somewhere in the middle and let your ears tell you what you like. Maybe more master than volume, though smi

Oh yeah..I love the direct drive, but you should try a bunch of pedals first and see once you are actually playing through them what you like....

Congrats.

I've never messed around with that amp, but for the EQs a good starting point is to put them all in the middle and start adjusting from there.

A Barber Direct Drive (probably the SS version) is on my short list, thanks to Mark.
