Explain Spotify like I'm 70yo

I don't use Spotify, or any streaming service. Obviously the business model sucks, but more than that, having a gigantic library available to me wrecks my relationship with music--i just get obsessed with searching, organizing, and cataloguing more than listening.

However, I have a specific need and Spotify send like the solution. I would like to have playlists of specific songs to play between classes, and using YouTube playlists has too many ads.

Could I use Spotify for this? What will it cost to not have ads? Is there a better option?

Many people I know have gotten fed up with Spotify and some of their janky playlists.... have done like what i do and subscribed to Youtube premium (I just pay once a year which I believe is the cost of 10 months at the per-month rate). I use Youtube music when I'm in the car or mowing the lawn, and when I'm watching Youtube vids, live performances, or guitar tutorials... NO ADs!!! :baimun:

I just use Apple. Sorry.

Apple Music and YouTube Premium are my music channels. If that makes me part of the problem rather than the solution, so be it.

I used Spotify years ago. I assume it’s similar to Apple at this point. You don’t have to use it or like it. The old paradigm is still there. I hear vinyl albums are experiencing a resurgence of popularity.

You’ll need a paid Spotify subscription to have your playlist stay in order. But you can create a playlist with the free version — which also has a lot of ads. If yr familiar with YouTube, might as well just get a YouTube paid account at whatever tier.

If you wanna know how to get your tunes in Spotify, I recommend Distrokid. It’s priced well and has some pretty flexible plans depending on number of artists, etc.

I find the turntable skips way too much in my car. :bigg:

Anyway, that's where I do most of my music-listening, since if there's music at home I'm generally playing and not listening.
Fun fact: Motorola was created with the idea of making a victrola for the car. Motor ola. Obviously, that nut was a bit too tough to crack, so they switched to producing radios.

Why not just try Spotify and see because right now if you sign up you'll get the first month free as a premium subscription. Then it turns to the free one which is basically useless. At this point if youre still on the fence and undecided sign up for the premium and youll get three more months free.

I use Spotify free version. I generally only listen while I'm walking the dog so I don't care about the ads that much and it's not worth the $ to get rid of them for a max of 10 hours of listening a week (and not listening that closely either). I know of people that HATE it because they find the sound quality too poor. Not sure if it get's better with the premium version or not but again not important for me with traffic, wind and dog noises. I kind of treat it like a FM radio station. If you want your own playlists or good quality music for home/car etc you might be advised to look at all the music streaming services and see which one suits you best

I've had Spotify premium going on a decade.

It works for me. I can't see how there'd be that much difference between it and any other music streaming service.
