Challenged by my daughter's friend...(guitar content)

Kick Henry Jackassowski
So my oldest daughter's best friend asked me last night, "can you play Sweet Home Alabama?".

I said, "I imagine I could learn it". :embarrassed:

"Really? Ok, do it."

Crap. I figure it will be a good excersise. I figured it would be a good song to know anyway. I figured it was going to be really easy, but DAMMIT, its kicking my ass. It sounds simple (and probably is to most of you guys) but I am having some trouble with it...I need to find a good video or something so I can figure out the stupid intro.

Anyway, shouldn't they be listening to Lady Gaga anyway...I hope she doesn't discover Little Wing or anything soon...:embarrassed:

You should be able to handle that, no sweat. I'm sure that Mark teaches it to group classes full of 13-year-olds all the time.

I flub that one up all the time. I have learned to just ignore mistakes and keep going. :embarrassed:

I have a really good accurate TAB at home I used to learn it. It's not that hard, but no where near as easy as it sounds if you play it correctly.

I really like the song, but our band dropped it from the set list. Mainly because every other country, rock, and alt-country band on earth plays it. It does pack the dance floor every time though...

Yeah, I love when students do that to me.

My response: "Maybe you should focus on learning to play better yourself and when you've put the time in we'll learn it together!" :)

Some of the haronies going on later in the song get pretty cool. I was supposed to do it for coverfest, but with the new baby, I never finished it. I still intend to one of these days, Prages and K did some tracks for me and I feel really bad about never having completed it. BUT, point being, if I can pull it off, I guarantee you can.

Sweet home Alabama

3 songs just about any guitar player should know. You WILL be asked to play one of these at some point in your life. :embarrassed:
