(Note: this is NOT a "280 c.i." engine. it's a 260 c.i. ford engine, just like the original cobras, before the 289 came along. if you zoom in on the decal, it's pretty obvious)

Shelby Legendary Cars has unveiled its latest and perhaps greatest Cobra, the Shelby Cobra CSX2000 Tribute Series Roadster. Other than a fully documented original Cobra, the Tribute Series Roadster aims to establish peak Shelby collectability with an aluminum body inspired directly by the 1962 prototype known as CSX2000, which sold through RM Sotheby’s for $13.75 million in 2016. Only 10 of these homages will be made, each of which can be thought of as a rolling history lesson that revisits the very first Cobra that Carroll Shelby built based on the British AC Ace sports car.

For this run of 10 examples, the CSX2000’s original blueprints are used as direction for hand-forming the aluminum body panels, and the cars come complete with authentic leaf-spring suspension, a period-correct Salisbury rear end, and inboard brakes beneath the skin.

I'll bet that'd be fun to drive on highway 9 through the Santa Cruz mountains! I always prefer the nimble roadster to the overly-powered straight-line beast.

While the CSX6000 427's get most of the attention (and more than most of us can handle), I'd rather have the small block 2000 for genuine driving pleasure.

this is the engine that was originally used, and the new version is as close to the original as possible.

XHP-260

The special rally version of the Falcon and Comet and early AC Cobra sports cars of 1962 used a high-performance version of the 260 with higher compression, hotter camshaft timing, upgraded connecting rods, valves with larger diameter valve stems, stronger valve springs and a four-barrel carburetor. This engine was rated (SAE gross) 260 hp (194 kW) at 5800 rpm and 269 lb⋅ft (365 N⋅m) at 4800 rpm. This engine was termed the HP-260 by Ford and was specifically made for Carroll Shelby – about 100 were made.

I dig pretty much all cars of that type and shape and this is certainly no exception. Beautiful finish too, indeed.

Went to car show a couple weeks back and there was a kit example there that would be fun. 5.0, side pipes, and auto trans. Very clean, beautiful blue paint. Said he drives it everywhere.
