Car of the Week: 1956 Continental Mark II

I did some custom carpentry work for a guy who had a cream colored one that was really well restored. You don't see many of these.
Not my thing, but I bet most modern cars would crumple like a beer can if they hit one of these.

very cool car. my dad was "lincoln" man. he had a number of them over the years. in 1971 he had 1969 Mark III, which was also a sweet car. well he was having some service done the Mark III and since he knew the owner of the dealership, he was allowed to use a Mark II that belonged to the owner for a couple days.

the doors on that thing weighed as much as a refrigerator.....OMG. but it sure was a cool car.

something like 4800 lbs. and it got around 9 MPG.....as i remember

and it got from 0 to 60 in a spectacular 12 seconds
Sounds like my first car, a '77 Chrysler New Yorker w/a 440. 9mpg was the best I ever got out of it. Good thing gas was only like 89 cents a gallon back then :embarrassed:

Of course, minimum wage (or whatever we made as a kid) was like $3....so it's all relative.

I remember distinctly crashing my Dad's 70 Chevy Station Wagon into a tree at about 30 mph.
It bent the bumper up a bit and cracked (not even broke) the headlight cover. I drove it away.
The tree was fucked.

He didn't even notice it for like three weeks and then I just shrugged like I had no idea what he was talking about......
