Can I get some feedback on a proposed class offering?

after that comet there will only be 16 people who like live music left...sadly

Around here at least live music is doing better than ever.

I have students who go to two or three shows a week, plus my friends go quite often as well. I'd go more often if it fit my schedule.

i'm not much a fan of the setlist either, but i think you should can it, Andy. you're not teaching or going to the class. Mark's trying to find new ways of bringing people into his door for paying lessons. there's a reason you and i don't listen to much mainstream music, but then again, there's a reason why it's mainstream music. because the people who do go out to the bar actually want to hear it.

I agree, Mark should teach the class if there's a market for it. I never said he shouldn't.

As for live music... find a gorgeous female singer who can nail Sexual Healing, and you'll never want for gigs, regardless of what goes on the rest of your setlist. This has, at least, been my experience.

I thought that was Sister Christian?

The list of filmmakers who make use of music as effectively as P.T. Anderson is a very very short one. Scorsese, Tarantino, Wes Anderson... maybe the Coens, when they don't use Carter Burwell.

If I told you I'd have to kill you.

:embarrassed:

Actually I was going to go through my song list and pull the 20 or so songs that I end up having to play at EVERY gig. Off the top of my head:

Sweet Home Alabama
The Joker
Brown Eyed Girl
Jessies Girl
867-5309 (Jenny Jenny)
Summer of 69
You Shook Me All Night Long
Hard to Handle
Don't Stop Believing - or other Journey song
Just What I Needed
What I Got
Blister in the Sun
Some blues song.
Mustang Sally
the 3 chord I IV V songs that are totally interchangeable song list
Play that Funky Music

The usual stuff..some songs have worked for 10 years or so and some of it is regional, I'm sure....

if I find out you are teaching people how to play the summer of 69, I will fly to Cali and and kick your ass Mark Wein!

I don't remember it, but then again I haven't watched Boogie Nights since I was in high school. Will check clip later.

James McMurty summed it up well when he said, "I thought I was an artist. Turns out I'm a beer salesman."

If I ever get paid to play one day, I'd be happy.
I liken to my current job as an illustrator. I am paid to illustrate what my company needs. It's not fine art. But I get paid to do what I love to do.
