Bye "Hey Dudes"... Hello Allbirds!

I had been a huge fan of Hey Dudes shoes since discovering them on vacation a half dozen years ago or so... and have easily burned through at least a dozen pair.

While they're super comfortable and probably the lightest thing you can put on your feet beyond a pair of socks.... they don't provide much arch support (a weekend at Disney Land had me replacing all the insoles with formed sport insoles with reinforced arches) and the bottom treads are made of such a lightweight material that I've had several pairs send me sliding across a wet floor because the treads were worn smooth.

My wife had been loving a pair of Allbirds that I got her to wear for teaching. Also lightweight, weatherproof, but more like an ultra-light running shoe. Hers were all black with a white sole, I got a pair similar to hers but a limited run color with signature "Baimun Pink" details. :helper:

Recently got a new pair that is a little more neutral in colors but the first couple pairs we got were around $150 each.... but this new pair was on sale for only $80! :baimun:

... and I got a second pair of the wool ones in Notre Dame colors for only $50!!!

These are my new go-tos. The couple pairs of Hey Dudes I still have will be fine for taking the trash out or such, but these just form to my feet so well, are holding up great, are washable, and so comfortable!!

Anyone else sporting Allbirds? :helper:

Hmm interesting might try...

The tops are stretchy... so even though they have laces, once they're tied you can slip them on and off without redoing the laces. It's probably another reason why they support better than the Hey Dudes because you can adjust the laces for walking/running to hold tighter in different places.

Happy New Shoes Day!

That reminds me, years ago my wife and I took a trip to Disneyland. She had matching shoes for all her outfits. At the end of the first day, her feet had blisters all over them. I went to the hotel store for liquid bandage, but all they had was super glue. I bought 2 tubes of super glue. I spent the rest of the week glueing my wife's feet, so that she could walk around the park. :bigg:

I need a good arch support and a wide toe box. After a lot of trial and error, I have found that Birkenstocks are about the only shoe I can wear. I now have too many pair in various styles. I just don't care for "athletic shoe" styling for some reason.

My wife was big on all birds for a minute and got everyone a pair. My giantness burned through mine in about 3 months, but she still likes hers.

My walking around sneakers are Altra Escalantes. I wear them because the big soft heels on most sneakers today make my ankles wobble and I don’t need another three months of PT to rehab a sprain. I would wear CrossFit shoes everywhere but the only ones I can get my feet into are incredibly ugly so I only wear them to the gym.

I find Airmax 1s really comfortable and very stable.
Vomero 17s are bananas comfortable but not as stable as 1s are.
Those are two of my favorite non-SB sneakers, ATM

Never wore all birds or dudes...neither are really my thing.

Right now, I’m wearing this pair of black Skechers. Lite-Weight slip-ons, lace look, thick memory foam. I have a pair of Dr Scholl’s inserts underneath the stock shoe inserts. They were cheap, $40 at my local Kohl’s, because they were discontinued.

They’re nothing special to look at, but they’re extremely comfortable. My only complaint is that the tread picks up small pebbles. It’s worth it to me for the comfort.
