I own and play on a variety of fingerboard materials. I like different aspects of each.
My Parker Nitefly with composite fingerboard feels the best but sounds the worst despite multiple pup swaps. The next best feel for me is Ebony which I find slightly smoother than Rosewood and they both sound good. Rosewood ranks slightly after Ebony for feel. Maple typically has a certain brightness that I like for some things, but the finish makes it my least favorite for feel. A maple finish feels almost sticky, for lack of a better description.
Perhaps, if I had known my preferences as a newb, I would have selected different guitars. But, I just play them all and enjoy them all.
