I am running Linux Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) as dual boot with Windows 10 on an old Dell Mini Tower. It's basically my video player for my projector, home-theater setup in the basement. It works for my purpose and it runs faster than W10 on that PC. However, Linux is not nearly as stable as Windows on that machine.
I could not get any of the current Linux distributions from Debian, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, to work on an old ASUS laptop. Each time, something critical was not working, including WiFi, as one example. I even tried older version of each with no luck. I still may try Mint to see if that one works. Fortunately, Windows 10 works and runs well on that laptop but support ends next year. Again, it's mainly just a video player for a 40 inch Samsung TV. I may just deal with viruses and malware by reloading a clean ISO when it gets infected.
I still like, use and appreciate Linux. But, for me, it's been a bit more fiddly than it used to be in the old days. And, I'm less savvy about it than I used to be.
Thank goodness for VLC Media Player which seems to work on every OS. I just contributed another $20 to their cause.
