I finally decided to move on

I finally moved on from the Punk Ensemble at the Old Town School of Folk Music. I played bass, and sometimes guitar in that ensemble for several years. I decided that I needed some different challenges and moved to the Boygenius ensemble. I'm also doing something very different in the class. I'm transcribing lead guitar tracks. That includes trying to figure out what effects are being used for various parts. This should be interesting. And it will keep me from doom scrolling. I won't have time for it. The class also learns solo songs from the 3 members, and collaborations. This one for instance, where Julien Baker played guitar with Paramore. All the weird sounds in there, that's all guitar and effects that Julien is using. And yes, I'm using AI for some of that work. It really does make some things easier.

This is great.

When we do "artist" shows at our school, it's usually along the lines of "six degrees of separation," like what you're talking about. We did that two years ago with our Harry Styles show, and the middle school is doing it with their "Metallica and Friends" show this semester. They learn so much more having to explore the influences and connections than just playing the music from one artist.

Also, AI is just another tool. Just use it for good and not evil.

I was sold on Boy Genius after I saw this:

Julien Baker is a fantastic musician. Her guitar skills are fantastic. She also plays banjo, mandolin, and piano. And she has a huge voice. Check out the video below. I'm working on her sound for Salt In The Wound. So far, it's an Optimist Overdrive with channel 1 and gain at 11:20, a Distortion + with output at 4 o'clock and distortion at 3 o'clock, a Walrus Fundamental Delay at with time at 5 a feedback and mix at 4 and set on analog, a Flamma Mod set to Trem with control at 11, speed at 10, and depth at 1, and a Hall of Fame reverb set to Hall with level, delay, and tone all at 1 o'clock and pre-delay set to short. That's reasonably close. Thankfully, that solo isn't too difficult. It's mostly A pentatonic.

And, FWIW, Lucy Dacus (the dark haired one) and Julien Baker are a couple. This band is so fucking queer. I love it.

This one is interesting. She's making a lot of weird space sounds on it. I'm trying to figure out how she's getting that sound.
