Sweet! and HI!!!

The guard went back on this morning, for 2 reasons. First, I do think it looks better with the guard - it adds some visual contrast that I think makes the exposed grain pop more. Second, and more important, I like to anchor my pinky on it, it's a super comfy spot for that.

I decided to see what my new Lester looks like without the pickguard. I'm not sure I can put it back on...usually I think it makes them look naked, but in this case, I'm OK with that!! Before: After:

I did contact them about that. They offered a 10% refund, which works for me. I didn't want to take the risk on shipping back and forth for what is essentially a cosmetic defect.

I've been looking into snagging a new Lester for the past couple weeks. Was waffling around between the various Standards - a nice Bourbon Burst, a Bourbon Burst plain top, a Faded, Pelham Blue, maybe Inverness Green...really wanted a Tobacco Burst, but I much prefer the 60s slim taper neck, and...

I don't really want any of them, but if forced to take one it'd be the 330 - and then I'd get the poop knife removed and replaced with a stop tail.

I thought about tweaking the action with the 9s, but it plays so well and sounds so good with the 10s that it was easier to just slap some 10s back on it.

I discovered today that this guitar really doesn't like 9s. I use 9s on all of my PRS, so I put a set on there and...NOPE! Sounded plinky. I briefly wondered if stock Gibson strings had some magic, but threw on a set of D'Addario 10s I had and there was the voice I love!
